1966 CB77 Super Hawk Cafe Racer 

The Honda CB77 Super Hawk was a 305 cc parallel twin motorcycle produced from 1961 until 1967. It is known as the Honda's first sportbike. With it, Honda burst into the Western motorcycle markets. For its speed and power as well as its reliability, it is regarded as one of the bikes that set new standards for modern motorcycles. The CB77 Super Hawk was the bike ridden by the writer Robert M. Pirsig on the trip he made with his son and friends in 1968 from his home in St. Paul, Minnesota to Petaluma, California, which became the basis for the novel Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Although the novel never mentions the make or model of the writer’s bike, as of 2007 Pirsig was still the owner of his Super Hawk. The CB77’s engine ia also regarded as the powertrain that inspired Laverda in producing its famous SF750 twin. Twist of fate, the Laverda project team included, together with Massimo Laverda, son of the company founder, and the designer Adriano Valente, the technical engineer Luciano… Zen!| 

La Honda CB77 Super Hawk fu prodotta dal 1961 al 1967. Era motorizzata da un bicilindrico fronte marcia di 305 cc. E’ nota per essere stata la prima moto sportiva dell’Honda. Con lei la casa giapponese irruppe nei mercati motociclistici occidentali. Per la sua velocità, potenza e affidabilità, è considerata come uno dei modelli che hanno fissato nuovi standards per le moto moderne. Con una CB77, nel 1968, lo scrittore Robert M. Pirsig viaggiò con suo figlio e amici dalla sua casa di St. Paul, in Minnesota, a Petaluma, in California, e l’avventura fu l’inspirazione del romanzo Lo Zen e l'arte della manutenzione della motocicletta. Sebbene il romanzo non rechi menzione della marca o modello di moto dello scrittore, a tutto il 2007 Pirsig era ancora in possesso della sua Super Hawk. Il motore della CB77 è anche considerato come l'ispiratore della Laverda nella produzione della sua famosa bicilindrica SF750. Scherzo del destino, il team di progetto in Laverda era composto, oltre che da Massimo Laverda, figlio del fondatore della casa, e dal designer Adriano Valente, dal tecnico motorista Luciano… Zen!
